Last week, the Tallahassee Democrat published an article on the recent spate of suicides at the Leon County Jail, which included an update on our lawsuit involving the death of Jennifer Casey Norred at the jail.
James Slater provided the following statement on behalf of the family of Casey Norred regarding the January 2023 trial against the former Corizon mental health counselor who was deliberately indifferent to Casey’s significant and known risk of suicide:
“We are set for trial early next year against the former Corizon mental health counselor who was responsible for ensuring the appropriate course of action for Casey Norred after her initial unsucessful suicide attempt. While we resolved Casey’s claims against the sheriff, there is absolutely no resolution for the grief of Casey’s family and friends. Even though Casey will never be reunited with her family, they are looking forward to bringing justice to Casey’s memory.”
